At Rieusset we have achieved the coveted EcoVadis Platinum rating, which represents a significant milestone in our aim to work towards a more sustainable, safer and healthier future. This recognition is a testament to our efforts over the last few years to promote responsible and sustainable practices.
EcoVadis, the leading sustainability assessment platform, awards Platinum status to only the top 1% of organizations that achieve the highest scores in corporate social responsibility, the environment, ethics, human rights and supply chain management.
What is the EcoVadis rating and what is it for?
The EcoVadis rating is a recognition awarded to companies that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). It is a platform that comprehensively assesses companies’ practices in the areas of the environment, human rights, ethics and the supply chain.
In 2023, EcoVadis has rated more than 100,000 companies from over 175 countries. According to the rating agency, “A growing number of Spanish companies are using our ratings and our platform to assess their sustainability performance and strengthen their ties with both regional and international clients. In 2022 alone, we conducted 1,200 assessments of companies of different sizes and sectors in Spain. This figure represented a 41% increase in the number of ratings compared to 2021, thus making Spain the fifth largest European country in terms of number of assessments.”
This rating is valuable as it helps companies demonstrate their commitment to sustainability to their stakeholders, such as customers, investors and business partners. In turn, earning an EcoVadis medal enhances a company’s reputation, market position and competitiveness, as more and more purchasing departments are turning to this data to measure and compare the performance of suppliers and business partners who can help them achieve their sustainability goals.
At the same time, more and more consumers value sustainable and ethical brand practices, and these medals help them to discern between truly sustainable brands and those that are merely greenwashing.
How does EcoVadis rate participating companies?
EcoVadis uses a scoring methodology based on a questionnaire of approximately 480 questions that considers 21 key criteria (and other sub-criteria) covering the four sustainability domains. The overall EcoVadis score ranges from 0 to 100 and reflects the quality of the company’s sustainability management system at the time of the assessment.
The EcoVadis sustainability recognition levels are based on the percentile ranking of the score achieved by participating companies from all sectors and a minimum score for each subject. The medal criteria are reviewed annually.
In 2023 they are as follows:
-
- Platinum – 1% of the highest scores (global score between 78 and 100)
- Gold – 5% of the highest scores (global score between 70 and 77)
- Silver – 25% of the highest scores (global score between 59 and 69)
- Bronze – 50% of the highest scores (global score between 50 and 58)
Receiving the Platinum medal means that Rieusset is among the exclusive 1% of the more than 100,000 participating companies that have achieved scores of more than 78 points.
According to the seventh edition of the EcoVadis Corporate Sustainability Index, Spanish companies occupy the 11th position globally with regard to corporate sustainability practices. Specifically, Spain had an average of 54.6 points in 2022, just below the European benchmark score. (HazRevista, 2023)
This score achieved by Spanish companies places them ahead of high-performing European countries such as Germany, Denmark and Switzerland, and only five points behind Finland, one of the main world leaders. With these results, our national companies confirm their progress in sustainability, achieving an increase of almost five points since 2018 and growing by almost one point since the previous year. How has our rating progressed in recent years?
Rieusset has participated in the EcoVadis rating since 2019, achieving a continuous improvement in the overall results and in almost all indicators:
But it was not until this year’s assessment, which measures performance in 2022, that Joaquín Vidal, Rieusset’s sustainability manager, said: “We have achieved a result that places us in the top 1% of the companies that have reported the best scores in the questionnaire, which means we have achieved the maximum score, or “Platinum Medal”, and what I think is more important, we are continuing to improve.”
This milestone is particularly remarkable considering that each year there are more companies being assessed, which makes it difficult to enter the top 1% that is recognized with the Platinum medal.
In line with continuous improvement, we are already drawing up an action plan in which we will set out the points to be worked on over the next year in order to consolidate the achievement of the Platinum medal. In addition, the qualification process for the coming years will be shared between the heads of the different departments involved at Rieusset, as each manager is aware of the work done in his or her process and the documentation that supports it. In this way, we will improve the quantity and quality of the answers provided. It is necessary to work on a continuous improvement plan, since, as Joaquín Vidal points out, “what’s difficult is not getting there, but staying there”.
For Rieusset, having achieved the EcoVadis Platinum medal not only highlights our dedication to sustainability, but also our ability to lead in an evolving global marketplace towards a greener and more ethical future. We are proud of this recognition and will continue to work hard to promote sustainability and be a leader in the industry.
