20 years of evolution and success: The acquisition of Rieusset by the Gerosa Group

Index of contents:

This year we celebrate two decades of a partnership that marked a turning point for Rieusset and the Gerosa Group. In 2004, the acquisition of our company by the Italian group with a solid track record in the packaging sector brought stability, innovation and the opening of new opportunities. In this post we look back on this milestone and reflect on its impact on our growth.

The moment of acquisition

To celebrate these two decades together, we spoke with Claudio Gerosa, Vice President of Cellografica Gerosa, who shared the Group’s perspective on this partnership.

In 2004, the Gerosa Group chose Rieusset to expand the Group. Could you tell us how this partnership came to be?

Claudio: In 2004, the Gerosa Group was looking to diversify its product offering and consolidate its position in new markets. In this context, we identified an ideal partner in Rieusset. Their track record in label printing and flexible packaging for sectors like tobacco, food, and beverages was remarkable. In addition, we shared similar values and a vision of innovation and sustainability that made Rieusset the perfect complement to our growth.

The acquisition was a strategic decision, not only to expand our portfolio, but also to strengthen our presence in an increasingly competitive and demanding market.

What were the challenges facing the packaging industry at the time and how did the partnership with Rieusset influence your strategy?

Claudio: In the early 2000s, the packaging industry was going through a period of major transformation. Demands in terms of sustainability and quality were growing rapidly, requiring significant investments in R&D and technology.

Rieusset had solid experience in these fields, and joining our group gave it access to additional resources and international markets. For our part, integrating Rieusset gave us greater specialization in key segments, such as labels. It was a perfect symbiosis that benefited both parties.

One of the highlights of this alliance has been flexible internationalization. How does that translate into practice?

Claudio: It is a model we have developed at Gerosa that combines a strong local focus with global standards. In the case of Rieusset, this meant retaining a Spanish management team to preserve its business culture and leverage its knowledge of the local market, while implementing processes and technologies aligned with our global operations through a significant investment program. This strategy has proven effective in enhancing Rieusset’s competitiveness without losing its essence and has been key to tackling the challenges of the sector.

What can you tell us about the future of this partnership?

Claudio: We look to the future with great optimism. We know that the packaging sector will continue to evolve, and we want to remain at the forefront. Our commitment is to continue developing innovative and sustainable solutions, anticipating market demands.

We are grateful to our employees, clients and partners for their unwavering support over these 20 years. The union of tradition and innovation has been key to our success, and we are confident that the next 20 years will be even more exciting and transformative.

The benefits of the union

As we celebrate twenty years of a partnership that marked a turning point for Rieusset, Jordi López, General Manager of Rieusset, who has been at the helm for the past 13 years, highlights some of the most significant benefits of this union:

  • Rieusset has become a benchmark in label printing for the beverage and hygiene industries. Additionally, we have expanded our production to laminated products, which are ideal for sectors such as the food industry.
  • With the support of Gerosa, we have modernized our facilities and adopted state-of-the-art technologies, such as new rotogravure printers and digital printing, which have improved the quality and sustainability of our products.
  • Aligned with Gerosa’s vision, we have adopted key measures to reduce our carbon footprint, improve the recyclability of our products and promote sustainable practices throughout our supply chain.
  • The integration into the Gerosa Group has allowed us to diversify markets, serve clients in more sectors and ensure economic stability, even in times of global uncertainty.

The acquisition of Rieusset by Gerosa was a major boost for the plant and now sets the guidelines for its operations. Rieusset strives to offer the highest quality products and shares the Group’s commitment to continuous innovation, to offer sustainable packaging and labels adapted to the needs of consumers and clients, and to contribute to a more responsible future.
