A project with a lot of aroma
Cafés Richard is a French brand of reference in the world of coffee, especially recognized for its presence in the Horeca sector. Its constant commitment to quality is reflected in every detail, including the packaging, which plays a key role in the perception of the product by consumers.
For their new 1 kg bag of coffee beans, they asked Rieusset to develop a package with the look and feel of paper, to convey quality and sustainability without sacrificing the technical properties of multilayer coffee packaging.
The objective was to develop a package that retains all the technical properties of a flexible structure – such as strength, shelf life and ease of processing – while at the same time offering a look and feel similar to paper. These requirements respond both to functional reasons and to a strategic desire: to reinforce the image of quality, proximity and craftsmanship that characterizes Cafés Richard.
Our technical proposal
We decided to address this challenge with a solution that balances aesthetics and functionality: a flexible three-layer structure that maintains all the features necessary to preserve coffee beans, to which we added a lacquer that is specially formulated to reproduce the look and feel of paper. This combination, together with precise cylinder engraving, has allowed us to achieve a realistic, stable and visually differentiating texture.
The development of this proposal has been possible thanks to a fluid collaboration between different areas of Rieusset. The business development team was the first to identify the need together with Cafés Richard, and from there a process was activated involving the R&D, prepress and printing departments. Each phase of the project was precisely coordinated to ensure that the solution met the objectives defined from the outset.
One of the most demanding aspects of the project was controlling the exact amount of solids in the application of the lacquer. Achieving the desired tactile sensation without compromising the functionality of the packaging required great technical precision. Thanks to our experience in printing and special finishes, we achieved a robust solution that is consistent with the brand identity of Cafés Richard, which not only responds to a specific need, but also adds real value to the final product.
Innovation you can see, feel and remember
The final result is a package that stands out not only for its functionality but also for its sensory appeal and aesthetic value. The paper-like texture, combined with the technical precision of the entire process, allows Cafés Richard to offer packaging that aligns with its premium positioning. But beyond commercial success, this project has also been recognized by the industry itself.
Thanks to this solution developed for Cafés Richard, we were awarded the First Prize at the 72nd edition of the Graphic Arts Competition of Catalonia – an achievement that highlights not only the graphic outcome but also all the technical work and collaboration behind it. This prize is a recognition of our commitment to continue innovating alongside brands that strive to stand out.
We thank Cafés Richard for their trust and the opportunity to have participated in this project. For everyone on our team, this case is a perfect example of how close and technical collaboration makes it possible to turn ambitious ideas into real solutions. And above all, how every shared challenge is an opportunity for continued growth.
