Labels in collaboration with artists

Brands committed to creativity: labels in collaboration with artists

The world of marketing has revolutionized the offer of labels in food and beverages. A clear example of this is the beer sector, which opts for original and innovative designs in its labels on a daily basis – don’t miss this post on creativity in beer labels. Achieving a creative label or packaging that captures the attention of consumers has become a challenge. That is why many brands collaborate with artists to design their labels, with the aim of creating a product image that differentiates them from the competition.

These collaborations usually arise in order to make special editions (anniversary of the brand, promotions, special dates such as Christmas or Valentine’s Day, etc.), to launch new products or any other reason that might be part of the brand’s marketing strategy.

Examples of labels with art

Collaborating with artists for label design is a great alternative – it gives exclusivity to the product, differentiates it from the competition, associates it to an artistic style and favors bonding with the target audience. In addition, it is beneficial for the image and values of the chosen artist, designer or illustrator.

Following, we present a compilation of labels designed by artists, some of which have been printed by Rieusset:

Agua de Lunares illustrated by Jorge Gay

The Agua de Lunares brand relied on the Aragonese artist Jorge Gay to design the back labels of its returnable glass bottles. Jorge Gay specializes in mural painting and has won numerous awards, including the Gold Medal at the San Fernando Higher School of Fine Arts. In addition, he was named favorite son of the city of Zaragoza.

It is a collection of six serigraphs consisting of images and texts that aim to lend a poetic aspect to water. These maintain the sober and elegant image characteristic of the brand, but with the special touch that identifies the author.

The brand’s aim is to turn its bottles, concretely their back labels, into a canvas for the creative expression of different artists. In this way, Agua de Lunares always manages to surprise with its bottles and these artistic collaborations have already become a fundamental part of the essence of the brand.

At Rieusset we had the privilege of printing these labels designed by Jorge Gay, which absolutely made the whole team fall in love with their originality and delicacy and which additionally were a success among consumers.

110 years of Estrella Galicia

The anniversary of a brand is the perfect excuse to create a special edition of its packaging. Estrella Galicia thought so, which celebrated its 110th anniversary collaborating with 53 national and international artists to design 110 labels for its bottles.

Among the artists there are some as well-known as Mariscal, Calpurnio, Rubén Pallejero, Manel Cráneo, David Rubín, Luis Dávila and Héctor Francesch, among others. The design of each of the labels, printed at Rieusset, revolves around the same theme: beer culture.

The result couldn’t have been more successful – not only did consumers fall in love with it, but it also caught the attention of collectors and even had an exhibition at the Luis Seoane Foundation in A Coruña.

Estrella Damm for Sónar 2022

Many brands, especially soft drink and beer brands, decide to make special labels for events and festivals. This is the case of Estrella Damm, which this summer decided to launch a special promotion for Sónar, currently one of the most important international music festivals.

For this, it engaged the collaboration of the Argentinian graphic designer Mario Eskenazi who was in charge of designing six back labels and a collar. Mario Eskenazi is known for creating the corporate identity of large companies, such as Banco Sabadell. Standing out in his designs are simplicity, clarity and message, with communication being their main objective.

Specifically, the designs of these labels for Estrella Damm capture attention due to their striking colors, and they are inspired by Nathy Peluso, the musician in charge of giving the opening concert at the festival.

This collaboration is also part of the brand’s special promotion, which raffled free tickets for the opening concert of the festival. To participate, it was necessary to get 30 codes (located on the back of the collars) and enter them on the website.

Once again, Estrella Damm, relied on the Rieusset team to print these labels.

Francis Coppola Reserve wines in collaboration with Dean Tavoularis

Another great example is the case of the Francis Coppola Reserve wines (property of the famous Hollywood screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola).

The labels of these limited production wines attract attention due to their unique design. The works of art designed by Dean Tavoularis, a famous American film production designer, lend these wine bottles a unique and very artistic image.

LIFEWTR collaborates with Jason Woodside, Craig & Karl y MOMO

With the aim of transmitting its concept of “thirst for inspiration”, the brand of bottled water LIFEWTR, of the PepsiCO group, collaborated with different artists for the design of its labels.

Specifically, these artists are Jason Woodside, Craig & Karl and MOMO, all of whom specialize in urban art. Each of them created an eye-catching design that represents their vision of art. The result: inspiring and creative bottles that are ideal for collecting.

MUAC 2014 wine in collaboration with the illustrator Pere Joan

As we explained at the beginning of this article, collaborating with artists for the design of new labels is also an action that forms part of the brand’s marketing strategy and which has its own objectives.

This is a clear example. In order to approach a new and younger audience, Muac entrusted its label design to the illustrator Pere Joan in order to achieve a more informal, uninhibited, fresh and youthful image. In this case, the label is a key factor in making way for new consumers.
